Our Story
For three years, our lives revolved around fertility treatments, surgeries, and procedures as we chased the dream of becoming parents. The pandemic made everything even more challenging—I had to face appointments and procedures on my own. After a significant portion of our financial resources had been spent on fertility treatments, I left my job in order to obtain insurance coverage. This meant switching clinics and saying goodbye to a care team and community I trusted. That team had become my lifeline, walking with me through the ups and downs and giving me the strength to keep going.
The first visit at the new clinic was defeating. After a baseline ultrasound, my new doctor left me in silence, only to return with a box of tissues that she placed in front of me before telling me that I was wasting my time. told I was wasting my time. She then shared statistics about my chances of conceiving and the recommended aggressive treatment. There were no words of encouragement or support. As I left, I was handed a psychiatrist's business card, and my insurance card was collected, leaving me feeling utterly overwhelemed and hopeless about my dream of becoming pregnant.
This project was born out of this isolating experience during which I came to understand the importance of assisting both patients and health care providers to foster a cycle of support.
